New Chapter Forming:
We are forming a new chapter in Dallas and looking for LGBT veterans in the Dallas / Fort Worth Area. This is an opportunity to strengthen our presence here in Texas. If your interested in joining you can click on the membership page located at the left side of your screen.
Russell Amaya, Chapter Organizer:
Russell came to the Dallas chapter from Milwaukee, WI. Russell is one of the original founders of Vets Do Ask Do Tell. He has been extremely helpful in organizing the Milwaukee chapter and served on the Board of Director's at National headquarters. Russell is a an Army Veteran who is disabled, but don't let the wheelchair fool you, he is very active in the organization which started last June and has been growing ever since.
Dallas VA Hospital News:
VA Dallas Hospital has started a LGBT support group that meets every other Tuesdays. These groups are strictly confidential and nothing goes in your chart except general conversation of the group. If you wish not to have an entry you can ask the facilitator to exclude you.
The next meeting is on March 9, 2010 at 8:30am to 10:00am. We are going to try for one of our meeting to be in the afternoon to see if there will be more LGBT Veterans / supporters that wants to be apart of this support group. For more information contact the Platinum Team.
Chapter News:
Some of the Dallas Chapter will be going to and helping out "Reclaiming Our Heritage" Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee VA Hospital. 9TH ANNUAL LIVING HISTORY and VETERAN TRIBUTE EVENT JUNE 5-6, 2010. This will be the 2nd year Vets Do Ask Do Tell, LLC will be apart of "Reclaiming Our Heritage".
TWO DAYS OF HANDS-ON HISTORY,
ENTERTAINMENT, TOURS AND EXHIBITS
PLUS A PRE-EVENT SCHOOL DAY
Reclaiming Our Heritage accomplishes these goals by staging a Civil War School Day and a two-day, free-admission, family-friendly, positively-patriotic celebration in the heart of Milwaukee. The weekend event includes a multi-era military encampment, veteran tributes, entertainment with historic flair, lantern tours of Wood National Cemetery, guided tours of the buildings and grounds, and much more. The Civil War School Day serves upwards of 600 2nd- and 5th-grade students while the weekend event reaches more than 15,000 visitors annually, along with 600 reenactors and many more volunteers.
There are many activities during the Reclaiming Our Heritage weekend including the Positively Patriotic Parade, Civil War and modern military medical demonstrations, a wide variety of entertainers, fashion shows, a street dance, and many, many more fun, family activities.
